Workplace Mediation Services
Navigating relationships in the workplace can be challenging. People have different work styles, priorities, and personalities. According to a study cited by Forbes, one in four respondents stated that a coworker was the reason they left a position. These conflicts not only strain working relationships but also impact productivity and may even lead to legal disputes or disciplinary actions. However, mediation offers a constructive and cost-effective approach to resolving workplace conflicts.
Unlike hiring lawyers or resorting to formal disciplinary processes, mediation focuses on fostering open communication and constructive dialogue among the parties involved. It aims to reach mutually acceptable resolutions while equipping individuals with better conflict management skills for the future.
Mediation is a flexible process based on the needs of the participants. The duration of individual meetings and the joint mediation session may vary depending on the complexity of the dispute, the number and needs of the parties involved. The mediator’s role throughout the process is to facilitate effective communication, promote understanding, and guide the parties towards reaching a mutually acceptable resolution. The Mediator remains impartial and independent.
The Process
Mediation is flexible to the needs of the parties but generally follows the process outlined below.
Individual Meetings :
● Purpose: Engaging in private discussions with each party to gather relevant
information.
● Information Gathering: Exploring the details of the dispute, understanding the
underlying issues, assessing the impact on each party, and identifying their
respective wants and needs.
Joint Mediation Session:
● Purpose: Bringing the parties together to foster open communication and
constructive dialogue.
● Sharing Perspectives: Allowing each party to express their experiences,
concerns, and desired outcomes.
● Exploring Solutions: Encouraging the parties to discuss how the conflict has
affected them and collaboratively brainstorm potential solutions.
Follow-up :
● Purpose: Checking in with the parties to monitor progress and support their
continued movement forward.
● Assessing Implementation: Evaluating how the agreed-upon solutions have been
put into practice.
● Addressing Concerns: Offering guidance and assistance to address any
additional issues that may arise after the mediation process.
